DJ Egadz drops some science on your asses

December 31, 2009

Egadz talks about shopping an album and not being tethered to a label:

“You can’t have fans unless you distribute your music. You can’t have distribution unless someone buys it. If no one buys it then you really don’t have fans. If you don’t have fans to come to your shows then you won’t have a draw and the venues won’t book you. If you don’t have shows then it’s harder to make fans. If you don’t have fans paying for your music and shows, then you can’t pay for press. If you don’t have press, then it’s harder to get fans. If you are too worried about fans, distribution, and shows, then chances are your music isn’t going to be good. If you don’t have good music then you don’t have a music career unless your a gimmicky motherfucker.

But don’t worry about all of that, I really feel like being an artist is really what sets you apart from the rest. No one can tell you have to make a living off of who you are. You have to figure that out for yourself while being knowledgeable of every part of the industry and choosing what you think you should pay attention to and what to ignore.

I’ve seen people do great by never performing a day in their life, while others only perform. I have had some terrible arguments with people’s egos over who is going to do be more successful than another. Especially now, there’s no template, no easy way out. Be prepared to spend years eating like shit, sacrifice relationships, and play in front of no one sometimes.

I do agree with Poe tho, it’s the best fuckin experience imaginable.”

One to grow on (…pause…).

Sleeps Numb – “Strawberry Sloths”

December 31, 2009

Back from the depths is San Diego’s sample-sewing, slithering Sleeps Numb bearing another bizarre creation marked by (what I would presume is) a lot of weed and the SP-404. “Strawberry Sloths” plods along punishingly like the feet of stoned soldiers following a bugle leading them to battle.

Sunsets Over Garbage is a free EP. Download it. Go get your sloth on.

Buck 65 – “Language Arts Part 7” (Strong Arm – Mixtape)

December 31, 2009

Biggity-Buck’s style and voice have never help any appeal with me. His production during the now-era is so slammin’ in its own world. Read the rest of this entry »
